Provenance & Scraper Defense Kit – Creator Licence
Sign your work. Prove where it came from. Keep AI training crawlers out, without losing a single search visitor.
A complete, tested toolkit for photographers, independent writers and small publishers who want verifiable proof of origin for their articles and images.
What's inside
- Provenance signing scripts for articles, photos, RAW files and any file, plus a verifier that detects any change and shows when a copy on another site came from you.
- RFC 3161 timestamps: independent evidence of the date your work existed.
- WordPress plugin: signs posts automatically, serves your public key, shows visitors a "Signed by your-domain" badge, and sends the EU text-and-data-mining opt-out.
- C2PA Content Credentials: batch signer that writes creator, copyright, IPTC source type and "no AI training" terms into your photos, plus a certificate generator.
- Server configs for nginx, Apache and Caddy to serve Content Credentials correctly.
- Scraper Blocking Registry: 68 AI crawlers in three tiers, generating robots.txt, nginx, Apache, Caddy and Cloudflare WAF rules. Google and Bing are never blocked. Includes a log auditor that catches fake Googlebots.
- 15-page implementation guide (PDF) in plain English.
Honest about what it does
The kit proves who published your content, when, and that it hasn't been altered. No technology can prove a human (rather than an AI) made something; any authorship statement you sign is your own declaration. Provenance is not a known Google ranking signal. The registry blocks AI crawlers that identify themselves; no tool can stop every disguised scraper. Photos signed with your own certificate show as valid but "unrecognised signer" in Content Credentials inspectors; the guide explains how to get trusted credentials.
Requirements
Python 3.9+ and OpenSSL. Photo signing needs the free c2patool (and optionally ExifTool). WordPress plugin: WordPress 5.6+, PHP 7.4+. Includes 50 automated tests.
